New: An internal battle is boiling over between Rep. Kevin Hern and Sen. Alan Armstrong about who gets to serve out the remainder of the term after the election
Yesterday, Oklahoma state Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton requested an AG opinion on the matter.
Hern's team believes that state law says that if they win the election they get sworn into the Senate in November.
Armstrong's team believes they get to serve until January because they argue he was appointed to fill out the remainder of the term. Additionally he wants to stay until permitting reform is done.
Armstrong's attorney sent a letter to Gov. Kevin Stitt on Sept. 11 asking that he request an AG opinion on the matter. Sources say Stitt has not yet requested an opinion.
Hern has hired prominent Oklahoma attorney Glenn Coffee to help with any challenges.
