From standing with small business owners in the #FightingFifth and reflecting on the legacy of Black excellence to celebrating leaders who paved the way and fighting for better access to healthcare, it was another busy week delivering for the #FightingFifth. The Supreme Court’s decision to allow Trump and DHS to use this system to purge voter rolls is a disgrace to our constitutional right to vote.

Congratulations to Ambassador Andrew Young for receiving the CBCF Board Chair Award! In the more than 60 years of service, Ambassador Young has been a leader in the Civil Rights Movement, represented Georgia's Fifth District in Congress, led our city as Mayor of Atlanta, and served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. His leadership helped shape the #FightingFifth we know today, and I am so grateful to walk a path he paved. Congratulations, Ambassador!

760,000 Americans are about to lose their healthcare in order to “save costs.” So while families are being asked to give up their healthcare to save money, the Trump Administration continues spending billions on war. It’s clear what their priorities are, and it’s clear they’re not with you. Working families in the #FightingFifth and beyond deserve better.

If you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, make your voices heard, y’all.  Show up for issues that matter to you, because the best way to combat any type of voter suppression is more people voting.

68,000 jobs statewide, 5,000 here in the #FightingFifth. That’s just a fraction of Coca-Cola’s impact on our state’s economy and communities. In 1965, Coca-Cola CEO J. Paul Austin threatened to relocate the company if Atlanta's white business leaders continued to boycott the dinner honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Nobel Peace Prize. Companies need to be unafraid to speak up. They have the power and resources to make a difference, and I’m proud to represent the headquarters of a company with a history of doing just that.

One more school to add to the #FightingFifth: Hillman College! 🎓💜 Thrilled to attend the premiere of A Different World and celebrate the legacy of a show that brought Black college life, culture, friendship, and community into living rooms across America. Hillman may be fictional, but its impact is very real. I’m proud to represent a community that knows the power of education and the importance of seeing ourselves reflected on screen.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States, affecting thousands of families every year, including my own. I lost my mama way too early to colon cancer. I know what it means for a family to lose someone they love, and I will never stop fighting for the proper resources and policies to ensure that patients can get the treatment they need so that families celebrate more birthdays. That’s why I’m urging Secretary Kennedy and HHS to align ACA policy with Medicare and classify follow-up colonoscopies as “screenings” so they can be covered by insurance. No family should have to choose between getting the care they need and being able to afford it.

When a family passes down a home, it should be the beginning of generational wealth. But for too many families, especially Black families, heirs’ property can put family homes and land at risk of being lost. That’s why I joined @realtist_nareb to discuss the HEIRS Act and my federal heirs property survey that was passed into law through the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. We need to make sure families have the tools and legal support they need to protect what’s theirs and keep the family home in the family. That’s how we build generational wealth in the #FightingFifth and across the country.

Secretary Bessent is trying to sell you an economic story that just doesn’t add up, y’all. We don’t need the numbers to tell us that families in the #FightingFifth and across the country are struggling to afford basic necessities. Wages are slowing at the exact moment costs are rising – and this is not a policy that is working.

Rather than focusing on growing her business, Terri-Nichelle is facing a $1,000+ premium, going uninsured, and struggling to figure out how to afford health care for her employees. Our small business owners deserve better. House Democrats are fighting for an affordable America.
