President Trump must use the State Visit with President Xi Jinping to demand the release of my constituent, Dr. Youlin Chen, and Min Zin, two U.S. citizens currently unlawfully detained by the Chinese government. @SenMarkey and I introduced a bipartisan Congressional Resolution condemning China’s arbitrary practice of detaining U.S. citizens based on spurious claims and demanding that the Administration make every effort to ensure their safe return.    Dr. Chen and Min Zin are respected scholars and academics who were engaging in academic exchanges.  They are being subject to repeated interrogations, deplorable conditions, and inadequate medical care.  Their families are not allowed to speak to them, and they have had limited access, if any, to legal counsel.  This is unacceptable and they must be released. apnews.com/article/trump-xi-…

More than 20 people, including several American citizens and other people who are lawfully present in the United States and engaged in the legal immigration process, have been shot during rogue federal immigration enforcement operations since President Trump took office in 2025. The recent shooting of Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, a DoorDash delivery driver, in Austin, Texas, during a violent ICE encounter is yet another cruel demonstration of how this agency is out of control and running roughshod over civil rights and due process. Early reports indicate that the ICE agent was a recent recruit who failed or refused to utilize his body camera during the incident. Deeply troubling as well, Mr. Graces Perez continues to be denied proper medical care to remove the ICE agent’s bullet that remains lodged in his back. I join with my @OversightDems colleagues to demand a full and independent investigation free from obstruction by the Trump Administration. Congress must intervene to restrain and transform ICE to remove it from our communities, enforce body camera requirements, adopt reasonable use of force standards, and commit to other major reforms to hold it accountable to the American people. I will continue to withhold all ICE funding until this rogue agency complies with the law.

It was an honor to join our hardworking Nurses and clinicians from @MassNurses on the picket line this morning to demand that Mass General/Brigham Hospital return to the bargaining table and reach a fair and equitable contract with the MNA. The First Amendment guarantees a free and open press as a pillar of American democracy and prohibits the government from retaliating against journalists for exercising their fundamental right to report the news to the American people.   As a member of the House Democratic Litigation Task Force, I stand with @CNN, @MSNOWNews, and @politico, who just filed suit to challenge President Trump’s unconstitutional ban barring these news organizations from the White House.

Trump’s attempts to rename the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after himself is a blatant case of stolen valor, and threatening to demolish it is a “Presidential Meltdown”. For more than 50 years, the Kennedy Center has stood as a source of national pride for the American people, our sole federal memorial in Washington, D.C., dedicated to President John F. Kennedy's memory, and a living testament to the arts and humanities. Investing in our future is critical for the next generation. I was honored to partner with Chancellor Suárez-Orozco and Provost Joe Berger in obtaining a $1 million federal investment to rehabilitate @UMassBoston's saltwater pump cooling system—critical infrastructure that uses saltwater from the Boston Harbor to cool about half of the campus in a climate-friendly way. This Congressional earmark was requested by UMass Boston and will replace aging infrastructure, save the university money over time, and support our fight to achieve carbon neutrality on campus — all worthwhile goals. Thank you to Chancellor Suárez-Orozco, Kayla Brady, a UMass Boston student who advocated for this project, and to Councilors John Fitzgerald and Erin Murphy for your dedication to our neighborhood.

The Supreme Court just blocked President Trump from moving forward with his unconstitutional restrictions on mail-in voting for the upcoming midterm elections. As we successfully argued in the brief that our House Democratic Litigation Task Force filed last week, the Constitution exclusively empowers the states to regulate federal elections, with the supervision of Congress. It confers zero authority to the President in this area. I am grateful to the more than 20 state plaintiffs, including Massachusetts’ @MassAGO Andrea Campbell, and the voting rights and pro-democracy organizations, including the Massachusetts League of Women Voters, who joined our fight in federal court to protect the right to vote of every American. In line with this ruling, Congress should pass my Vote by Mail Protection Act and outright invalidate President Trump’s executive order that gave rise to these unlawful restrictions in the first place. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

South Boston never forgets. Hundreds of our friends and neighbors came together to celebrate Mass at St. Brigid Church, mark the 45th anniversary of the dedication of the South Boston Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and honor the 25 service members from our neighborhood who were killed in Vietnam. The South Boston Vietnam Veterans Memorial was among the first memorials constructed in our County honoring Vietnam veterans in 1981, when opposition over the war’s aims and human costs made such memorials controversial. At that time, a small group of veterans led by Tom Lyons persevered in establishing a suitable memorial to ensure that the courage and sacrifice of 25 young men from South Boston would be remembered. Thank you to former U.S. Senator Jim Webb, our guest speaker, for your inspiring words and your dedication to public service to our nation. Thank you also to Vocalist John McDermott and to Tommy Lyons for your relentless advocacy on behalf of your fellow veterans and for organizing such a meaningful event. It was great to be joined by so many Gold Star families as well as my colleagues in government, Mayor Wu, @nickcollinsma, @SCDAONews, @EdforBoston, @ErinforBoston, and Clerk of Courts John Powers.

Around the Eighth Congressional District yesterday, communities came together to remember and honor those we lost 25 years ago today at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and in a field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  I joined first responders, veterans, and colleagues in government for ceremonies in Braintree, Quincy, and Dedham to pay tribute to the lives lost and to remember the heroes who responded.

On this 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we remember and honor the heroism of our Firefighters, Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Technicians who answered the call on that fateful day. We also remember the passengers, crew, office workers, transportation workers who perished and the Defense Department personnel who were killed and injured in the attacks on the Pentagon. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families always. May we never forget.

I was honored to visit with families and staff at the Brockton Area Multi Service Early Intervention Center today in Brockton. This organization provides exceptional early intervention services to over 700 young children with special needs.  While the Trump administration has continued to dismantle the Department of Education and cut Medicaid funding, organizations such as BAMSI are more important than ever.  Special thank you to Babacar Diop, Sarah Gonet, Barbara Santa Collins, Mary Tremblay, and Heather Kashman for your hospitality today and for all you do on behalf of our children and families in need.
