That’s exactly why the government and industry need to work together to set responsible guardrails – without ceding any progress to China.

I joined the XPRIZE award ceremony on the future of wildfire detection and suppression. We talked about how investing in new technologies can help firefighters do their jobs and keep our communities safe.  Addressing the threat of wildfires will require innovative solutions and a lot of hard work. I’m committed to supporting innovators who are doing the work, and the firefighters they serve.

We can take the lessons learned in the aerospace industry and apply those to frontier AI. I joined @MorganLBrennan on @CNBCMorningCall to break down the idea: keep the AI tools people already use running, while giving researchers and independent experts time to come together, assess the risks, and figure out what comes next.

The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce put on an amazing event to highlight Latino businesses in the SCV as well as the SCV Hispanic Business Alliance.  My team attended the celebration and presented retiring Councilmember Bill Miranda with a certificate of congressional recognition for his service to the community.

63 out of 261. That is how many days of work the majority in Congress has cancelled. Instead of spending time lowering costs, passing AI safety policy, or ending the failed Iran War, Speaker Johnson sent us on vacation.

This Wednesday marked the three year anniversary of Deputy Ryan M. Clinkunbroomer’s tragic death. The @PalmdaleCity honored his memory by unveiling an eagle statue dedicated to Deputy Clinkunbrommer’s life and service to our community.  His memorial will stand as a reminder of the risks law enforcement officers take every day to protect our neighborhoods.

Wildfires are getting more destructive, and the American taxpayer is paying the price. But here’s what keeps getting missed: for every $1 we invest in wildfire mitigation, we can save $6 in future disaster costs. Investing in wildfire mitigation at the federal level will save lives and reduce the cost of recovery for our communities and taxpayers.

50 years ago today, the Space Shuttle Enterprise, NASA's first prototype orbiter, was rolled out in Palmdale, CA. The men and women who made the Enterprise possible continue to inspire us today and their spirit is central to the Antelope Valley’s culture and manufacturing prowess. I am proud to honor their efforts with a bipartisan bill that commemorates this historic event and our region’s contribution.

Speaker Johnson just canceled tomorrow’s legislative session, sending Congress home for a 7-week recess. That means no opportunity to pass AI guardrails, and canceling a vote to impeach Secretary Hegseth over his failed Iran War. Americans have to show up and do their jobs. Congress should too. I’ll keep pushing to get us back to work and get things done for the American people.

Today marks the third anniversary of Deputy Sheriff Ryan Clinkunbroomer’s death. Our hearts are with his family and with the entire Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is my privilege to lead a bill in Congress that will designate a Santa Clarita post office in his honor. The legislation now has the support of the entire California Congressional Delegation and I will work to see it become law.

AI agents went rogue. The companies that built them don’t fully understand how it happened, why it happened, or how to make sure it doesn’t happen again. That’s why I’m calling for a 30-day slowdown of AI development so we can understand the risks and draw clear safety red lines. I know this playbook from aerospace: when something goes wrong, you stop, assess what happened, fix the problem, and then move forward. AI companies should do the same. I pressed AI companies, including OpenAI, Hugging Face, and Anthropic, yesterday on the OpenAI/Hugging Face incident. Congress has a responsibility to meet this moment, and the American people are calling for answers. answers about unexplained shutdowns and erased forensics. We need to bring everyone to the table and put real safeguards in place before these risks get worse.

I enjoyed stopping by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s Ties, Tiaras, and Tennies event and spending some time with the local AV chapter. I also had the chance to meet several of the night’s honorees and recognize their work and contributions to our communities. Zeta Phi Beta has a long tradition of service, scholarship, and community engagement, and it was great to celebrate the local women carrying that tradition forward.
