"There’s a democratic distortion here that cannot be ignored. Quebecers expressed a wide range of political preferences, including a clear popular majority for parties opposed to independence or not campaigning for it. Yet the electoral system translated that divided vote into a governing plurality for the one major party explicitly committed to breaking up the country. That raises legitimate questions about the continuing utility of first-past-the-post in an age of growing political heterogeneity and multiplying voter preferences. Those questions deserve a fuller discussion on another day." Sean Speer: Three lessons from Quebec’s political earthquake - The Hub thehub.ca/2026/10/06/three-l…

We need ranked choice voting, like Australia, or the 2 stage system like Alaska. PR lost in Ontario in 2007, and multiple times in BC, so more than half the country has voted against PR systems chosen by Citizens' Assemblies. The Aussie system works in a Parliamentary democracy like ours, while some PR systems might not even be constitutional, at least federally.

What an insane distortion by dishonest partisan shitbags. We voted for PR, nationally 88%, in the greatest cross-country citizens' assembly ever held. You twisted scumbags stole a majority by shitting on the democratic will of Canadians, and here we are. #ERRE #cdnpoli
