THE BOOK OF TAD
PAGE 4
THE KEY IN THE BROKEN CURRENT 🔑
The Builder flow key trembled in TurboTAD’s flipper.
Blue-violet light beat inside its dark-gold centre, spilling across its three engraved points. The gate had sealed again, but its warning remained.
Do not open the gate.
Ahead, the nursery water pulled backwards through the reeds. 💧
“The third pool is dropping faster,” Sora said, tightening her hold on Mira. “The Little TADs won’t have long.”
TurboTAD closed his flipper around the key. “Then we follow it.”
The key answered with a sharp pulse.
One point turned toward the roots beneath the gate, where a narrow crack hid behind moss. TurboTAD swept it aside. A stone passage appeared, its walls carved with First Builder circles and branching pathways.
Mira peered into the darkness. “That was here the whole time?”
“Hidden,” Sora said. “A maintenance passage for the old current keepers.”
TurboTAD entered first.
The passage twisted beneath the nursery between roots and ancient stone. The flow key flashed over sealed valves and silent channels. Uneven vibrations travelled through the walls.
At the passage’s end, TurboTAD stopped.
A wide stone conduit crossed the chamber. It should have carried water toward the third nursery pool.
Instead, it was cracked open.
A jagged hole gaped in its underside, and the remaining current poured through it, vanishing into blackness beneath the floor. 🌊
Sora pressed one flipper against the fracture. “The pool is draining through here.”
Mira stared at the broken stone. “Did it collapse?”
TurboTAD raised the flow key.
Its light traced every splintered edge. The fracture lines bent inward, as though something had pulled from inside.
“No,” he said quietly. “This was forced inward.”
Gold markings woke beneath the stone dust—First Builder circles, channel lines and tiny directional marks. None crossed the broken opening.
Sora’s eyes widened. “The hole was never part of the design.”
A low vibration rolled through the chamber. Loose grains lifted from the floor and drifted toward the darkness below.
Mira moved closer to Sora. “It’s still pulling.”
TurboTAD pressed the three-pointed key against the conduit wall.
Blue-violet energy spread from its centre in branching lines. ✨
A hidden map unfolded across the stone.
The nursery pools appeared as three glowing circles. Channels connected them to the ancient gate, then curved through the lower conduit. But beneath the fracture, another route emerged—one concealed from the visible Builder markings.
It descended.
Deeper than the nursery roots.
Deeper than the gate.
The line fell through layer after layer of dark stone until it reached a single symbol at the map’s lowest edge.
An open eye.
It pulsed once.
Then again. 🔮
Mira whispered, “Is it looking at us?”
TurboTAD watched the drifting grains vanish into the broken opening. The flow key’s inner light began beating in time with the symbol.
Sora looked toward the fading circle of the third nursery pool. “Can we close the break?”
“We will,” TurboTAD said. “But first we need to know what’s pulling from below.”
A stronger surge tore through the conduit. Water rushed backwards past them and plunged into the hidden channel.
The nursery current had not simply stopped.
It was being taken.
