Security on Aptos isn’t a single wall. It’s a stack of layers, each built on the assumption that the one before it might fail. In Move, assets are resources: they can’t be copied, silently destroyed, or forged. Entire classes of vulnerabilities that plague other smart contract languages simply can’t be written. Then we prove it. With the Move Prover, engineers write formal specifications for how code must behave, then mathematically verify that it does, across every possible input and state rather than only the cases a test suite happens to cover. Core parts of the Aptos Framework are specified and checked this way, and the same tooling is open to every developer building on Aptos. Almost no other ecosystems bring formal verification this close to everyday development as early as Aptos. Before any code runs, the MoveVM verifies it, checking type and reference safety at load time. Then we go further. Verifiers are complex software, and complex software can have bugs. So Aptos runs independent runtime checks that re-verify critical invariants during execution. If something slips past verification, the VM is built to catch the inconsistent state before it can do damage. We invite the world’s best security researchers to try to break it, with bug bounties paid out over millions. Most of this work is invisible, and it should be. It’s what financial infrastructure that people and institutions can trust requires.
