During his first administration, Black unemployment reached historically low levels before the pandemic. Black poverty fell to 16.3% in 2019, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. These improvements were part of longer economic trends, but they occurred during his presidency. Trump also signed legislation establishing Opportunity Zones, encouraging private investment in economically distressed communities. The extent to which those investments benefited existing residents remains a legitimate subject of debate. In April 2025, Trump established a new White House initiative supporting HBCU research, innovation, infrastructure, and workforce development. His administration also reported more than $1.3 billion in Department of Education support for HBCUs during fiscal year 2025. NOW HERE IS WHERE THE HYPOCRISY BECOMES PARTICULARLY DISQUIETING! When Donald Trump signs criminal justice reform that benefits Black Americans, you call him a racist. When he signs legislation securing permanent funding for Black colleges, you call him a racist.
