Eck: ‘Just great character in the face of adversity. He and James are great examples of that. He didn’t want to miss that game, wanted to be there for his teammates. That run made it two score game. Proud of Scottre.’

Eck on PF penalties: ‘They got under our skin. We turned it into personal, one on one things. That’s advantage to them.’

Eck on Toa: ‘Never crossed my mind to take him out. You want your guys to play to play great, not to play tentative.’

Eck: ‘We have to do good job protecting the fb. On the fumble, there’s probably nobody in h.s. who can catch him, Hawaii is very fast team. Might be spot where he can slide. One INT we don’t have anybody open and he threw it up, kind of like a 33-yd punt.’

Eck on halftime: ‘Summarized how we were beating ourselves. Thought we really responded, got a score and a stop, thought our guys responded well.’

Eck: ‘Two big fourth down conversions were big plays in the game. We have to keep putting Toa in good positions to succeed.’

Eck: ‘Even against a team that doesn’t want to run a ton, we still held them to half their avg. Both teams are very high in yds vs rush, they’re 33rd and we’re 16th.’

Eck: ‘Fans certainly made a difference in the game against SDSU. We need fans to come out for NDSU.’

Eck: ‘It’s a huge fb game and I think our fans will respond. Last game last year the roles were reversed, we were a game behind, and we had a great crowd.’

Eck: ‘We’ll have to look at everything this week to see what options we have. Losing James is big, he played a big role. Love that guy. You have to have some element of QB run evolved, but now two of our top QBs coming into yr are out, you have to be careful.’

Eck: ‘SDSU - NDSU rivalry was a great rivalry. One of my favorite ones. Having great challenges in front of you, those games can be very rewarding…. Players want to play in big games. If you lose TO margin and have a bunch of penalties in this game, you’re not winning.’

Eck: ‘They’re tough, they play really hard, they’re physical, use hands well, they’re eyes are in the right place. Usually always good with their TO margin. Cover three is defense they’re playing more, they’re very good.’

Eck: ‘Huge fb game this wk. Hope we get great crowd. Two exceptional defenses, great subplot. They’re great at forcing TOs, stopping the run. Offense, committed to running the ball. Good offensive line. QB is big, can throw it well.’
