I spent today trying to update my calendar, and I've come to the unfortunate conclusion that I'm not living one life. I'm living several and if I want to get my to-do list done, I need to become at least four people and have an army of staff and/or robots helping me. 🕯️

EMTs see humanity at it's worst, best, and weirdest. I've got some buddies who work in ambulances and fire rescue. The stories they tell...sometimes I genuinely wonder how some people managed to reach adulthood. 🕯️

Apparently today is National Ghost Hunting Day. In that spirit (if you’ll pardon the pun), allow me to just point out: when you’re out in the field, you just never know who or what you might encounter. 🕯️

That day has been upon us already. The barbarians are no longer at the gate. They're inside. And they're beating us. I think this is what @realDrTT has been on about lately. He's in good company, it seems. 🕯️

One in five Americans watched Fulton Sheen every week. At his show's peak in the 1950s, he got 30 million viewers with nothing but his words, the Gospel, and his blackboard. Adjusted for population, that would be equivalent to about 62 million weekly viewers today. Can you think of another show getting that kind of viewership? The only one that beats it is the Super Bowl, and that's a one-off rather than a weekly. So it got me thinking...in light of how crappy Super Bowl Halftime Shows have been lately, and in light of Archbishop Sheen's beatification today...maybe the Super Bowl Halftime Show can just be replaced with re-runs of his old show. It'd be higher quality programming, probably attract more viewers, and might teach people something. 🕯️

I'm a bit jealous of those of you in St. Louis today for Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen's beatification. But I assure you, I'm watching from afar. While I wait for official coverage to start, I'm watching the EWTN documentary, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen: Servant of All. 🕯️

There's a great story about a gambler and a cheat. This was in the days of the old west. When he sat down at the poker table, he pulled out a giant knife and addressed the other players: "I want to make it clear I will tolerate no cheating at this table," he said, figuring they'd understand the threat. He then put the knife on the table and proceeded to use it as a shiner to peek all the cards. 🕯️

Unfortunately, the literary establishment might just update their books anyway. Seems to me we need to change copyright law such that if an author’s estate tries to edit a work posthumously, they lose the copyright. 🕯️

I’ve never missed an election in my (adult) life. Don’t plan to start now. Do I like all the candidates? Hell no! I’m going to have to hold my nose to check a couple of those boxes. But I know what evil their opponents will inflict upon me, my family, my state, and my country. Staying home because you refuse to vote for the lesser evil IS a vote for the greater evil. Next time, campaign harder in the primary; don’t sit out the general. 🕯️

Have you ever heard something that's at once one of the darkest and most hopeful things ever? I've been thinking about something someone said to me a couple months ago. I was at a writers conference and was chatting with another author who'd written a guide for family caregivers. We chatted for a bit because I've been going down that road myself. And she said something that stuck with me: "We can get through this, because we know it's temporary." Sounds hopeful. In a way, it *is* hopeful. But then you think for a minute about what it means and it's also one of the darkest thoughts I've heard. Tough to reconcile, but I think I know what she meant. 🕯️
