merchants selling into brazil or nigeria lose around a third of their sales and most never find out why
the customer wanted to buy, had the money, hit purchase, and their bank declined it
not because of fraud - a foreign charge from a company the bank doesn't know just gets declined by default
in nigeria it's even stricter, international card limits got cut to $20 a month
and in brazil most people don't pay by card online anymore, pix handles more volume than cards and cash combined, and most foreign checkouts don't offer it
the fix is boring: run the same card through a local acquirer and it approves instantly
the sale was there, the bank killed it, and your dashboard just says declined
