It's very rare for politicians to cut their losses. The usual path is to make a bad decision (like starting a war with Iran) and then to pile more bad decisions on top.
Meanwhile, American citizens are forced into a pressure cooker.
Each bad decision increases the pain, until it becomes unbearable.
President Trump could have cut his losses early in Iran. It would have stung, but by now, seven months later, it would've been forgotten.
By not cutting his losses, the pressure on the American people continues to rise ... right before the midterms.
