NEW: Ford has halted shipments of its SUVs, pickup trucks, and sports cars to China, the WSJ reports. In response to Trump’s tariffs on China, Beijing has imposed tariffs of up to 150% on these U.S.-made vehicles. Trump’s trade war is going to lead to massive layoffs in the auto industry here at home. No one wins a trade war.

Shawn Fain, the President of United Automobile Workers Union reiterated his support for Trump's tariffs on CNN... how ignorant do you have to be to believe that if someone does build an auto or auto parts plant in the USA that it will be in a state that supports unions. New factory workers will make the same as someone at Starbucks... Hey Shawn, how much does Elon Musk pay Union Members at Tesla? Oh, that's right, he won't let them organize 🙄

When explaining 47’s logic on trade wars to my 10yo today, he replied “how are we going to have money to build factories if everything else becomes so expensive? And why do we want to make everything ourselves anyway? There’s a whole planet to get things from.” Untarnished logic!

Vehicles are not the only things that are going to be impacted. Furthermore another vehicle manufacturing giant is right next door to China. Japan. the EU. South Korea. All these countries have purchasing power as well. China has already started to diversify away from the US in Trump's first term. Imagine the repercussions after Trump has left...They aren't JUST going to automatically swing back to the US. These tariffs will have long term implications.

This is what Republicans wanted – more layoffs, less social services, and declining 401(k)s. They specifically voted for this because that was worth it so that some trans person they don’t know in another state has their rights taken away.

Trump’s first 100 days have been a historical failure. This will make things worse. He’s cutting people’s benefits and taking away their jobs.

at least we won't need to worry about building new factories in the US since there is much less business

True but China can afford to outlast the USA and they have the political willpower and determination to do so.

In the trade war between America and China, the winner will be Russia. That is why Trump-Krasnov started it.

The escalating trade war is backfiring on American workers. Ford’s halted exports and looming layoffs reveal the real-world consequences of aggressive tariff policies. Instead of protecting industries, the conflict disrupts markets and weakens economic stability. Trade wars don’t crown winners—they expose vulnerabilities and leave both economies bruised, especially the working class.

Trump wins if he's able to use the chaos that he has created in the economy to make people so focused on their own personal survival that they don't pay attention to him pulling off a Jacksonian challenge to the power of the supreme court and creating a constitutional crisis.

And those laid off will not buy as many products. Causing other companies to lay off. The only solution is to get rid of the tariffs.
