How the FUCK is this acceptable?
You can work your entire life, pay your taxes, pay your National Insurance, raise a family, contribute to your community and do everything this country asks of you and then, when you finally reach retirement, you can be left trying to survive on around £12,000 a year from the full State Pension.
TWELVE THOUSAND POUNDS A YEAR.
After decades of working and contributing to this country, that is what you are expected to live on.
How is that remotely fair?
We constantly hear about supporting people, protecting people and making sure nobody is left behind. Yet where is that same urgency for the pensioners who have spent 30, 40 or even 50 years getting up every morning, going to work and paying into the system?
I am NOT saying that people who genuinely need benefits should not receive support. Of course they should.
But there is something seriously fucking wrong when someone can spend their entire working life contributing to this country, only to reach retirement and discover that their reward is financial insecurity.
These are the people who helped build Britain. They worked through difficult times, paid their taxes, supported their families and contributed to the society we have today.
They deserve to retire with dignity, security and enough money to live, not spend their final years worrying about whether they can afford the heating, the food or the next bloody electricity bill.
You cannot spend decades telling people, “Work hard, pay in and do your bit,” and then turn around when they retire and effectively tell them, “Good luck surviving on it.”
That is not gratitude.
That is not dignity.
And frankly, it is not good enough.
The people who have poured their entire lives into this country deserve better than this. They have fucking earned it.
