Sex is an obligation in marriage. Both partners have a duty to meet each otherโs physical needs. Thatโs part of โto have and to hold, forsaking all others, till death do you part.โ
You have an obligation to take care of your kids. You have an obligation to show up to work on time. You have an obligation to maintain intimacy with your partner in marriage.
Nobody is forcing you to do these things. Theyโre simply responsibilities you have. Thatโs life, you have responsibilities.
Do you think a healthy sex life just โhappensโ after several years together? It doesnโt. You have to work at it.
And the longer a couple is married, the more effort they need to put into maintaining a fulfilling and exciting sex life. Otherwise, they run the very real risk of ending up in a sexless marriage.

And I made the post gender neutral. Husbands have an obligation to fulfill their wivesโ physical needs and desires as well. A healthy sex life is one of the foundations of a healthy marriage.
Itโs too bad that so many women seem so averse to having sex with their husbands. And then they wonder why men donโt want to get married anymore. This is just one reason among many why marriage is a bad deal for men in the modern age.

When you agree to marriage, you are agreeing to sex. You arenโt surrendering your right to consent, or not. Both spouses should want a relationship in which consent is regular. You want to desire, and to be desired. When in that zone, you fight to keep it, and it *all* works.
I think the conversation surrounding โobligation sexโ is muddying the waters when it comes to intimacy within a marriage.
In my mind, itโs almost a position that convinces one spouse, usually the woman, that itโs not an important part of a healthy marriage.
