The Satara webcam recently captured a sighting of the African wild cat (Felis lybica), a solitary and largely nocturnal species rarely observed on camera. Often mistaken for a domestic cat due to its size and colouring, the African wild cat is in fact a distinct wild species and the ancestor of the modern domestic cat. It typically hunts alone under cover of darkness, preying on rodents, birds and insects, and plays an important role in regulating small mammal populations within the ecosystem. #LiveYourWild #WildBackyard #AfricanWildCat
