For Dr. Kyle D. Claunch, systematic theology is an effort to faithfully articulate what the whole Bible teaches. He teaches students to see the coherence of Scripture and to understand how its truths fit together across the canon.
In the classroom, Dr. Claunch shows students that systematic theology begins and ends under the authority of Scripture. Every doctrine we articulate must be shaped by what God has revealed in his Word.

"It matters for the church because God has given us His Word as a whole. We operate with the assumption that it has one single Author, and thus we expect a coherence across the canon anytime the Scriptures address a particular topic.
We expect every place that addresses that to be consistent and coherent. And so systematic theology is attempting to demonstrate that coherence and to organize that material in a way that is natural from a reading of the scriptures."

"Systematic theology is not an exercise that is downstream from the interpretation of Holy Scripture. It is a mode of interpreting Holy Scripture. What we're seeking to do is to be attentive to the words given to us in Scripture and to subject our articulation of the material to the authority of divine revelation, not the other way around.
So it's Scripture that regulates which topics we address. It's Scripture that regulates what we say about those topics, and it's the assumption of the authority of Scripture that pushes and pressures us to seek to demonstrate coherence and consistency with other things that God has said in His Word.”
Dr. Kyle Claunch is Associate Professor of Christian Theology. He teaches various classes on Christian Theology including: Systematic Theology I, Systematic Theology II, The Doctrine of the Trinity, and more.

Jesus is praying for you.
In today’s chapel, Dr. Bill Cook reminded us in Luke 22 that Christ’s love for His people is not distant or passive. Jesus knows us fully, loves us completely, and continually intercedes for us even in the seasons when life feels difficult and uncertain.
Our trials are not outside of Christ’s care. God is using them to conform us to the image of His Son, and we can trust that Jesus is with us through every step.

In today’s chapel, Dr. Daniel Stevens, Associate Professor of New Testament Interpretation at Boyce College, preached from Genesis 22 on Abraham’s faith, obedience, and trust in the character of God.
And we have even greater reason to trust Him. The Lord has provided His Son, and He will faithfully provide all we need.

This week, students joined Dr. Jonathan Pennington for "The Parables of Jesus", Dr. Paul Akin for "Introduction to Missiology", or Dr. Jeremy Pierre for "Biblical Counseling and Personal Ministry of the Word" for three days of in-person study, fellowship, chapel, and campus life through our Experiential Modular courses.
We’re thankful for another great week with our online students and the opportunity to welcome them into the life of Southern Seminary.

For ten years, Southern Seminary has been training Spanish-speaking pastors and ministry leaders through the Online Hispanic Program.
This fall, that work took another step forward as Southern hosted 𝑅𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑑𝑜𝑠 𝑝𝑜𝑟 𝑙𝑎 𝑉𝑒𝑟𝑑𝑎𝑑, its first fully Spanish-language conference. Leaders from across the Spanish-speaking world gathered for worship, theological study, and fellowship as Southern celebrated a decade of Hispanic theological education.
