SECP Hosts First Meeting on Legal & Regulatory Framework for Private Equity & Venture Capital
Chaired by Mr. Imtiaz Haider, Commissioner SECP, the first meeting of the Regulatory Reform Workstream on Private Equity was held at SECP Head Office under the Prime Minister’s National Private Equity Framework.
The meeting brought together senior representatives from the Ministry of Finance, State Bank of Pakistan, SIFC, the Advisor to the Finance Minister and private sector stakeholders to discuss reforms aimed at facilitating domestic and cross-border investment and strengthening Pakistan’s private equity and venture capital ecosystem.
Proposed measures include a single-step fund registration framework, removal of the investor cap for eligible individual investors, greater institutional participation, adoption of International Private Equity and Venture Capital (IPEV) valuation guidelines, umbrella fund structures with protected cells, and public-private anchor vehicles to mobilise capital.
The reforms seek to align Pakistan’s private funds ecosystem with international practices while unlocking patient capital for startups, SMEs and national infrastructure.
