We identified a series of new, likely passive defensive measures installed around the Shahed (Geran) production facilities at the Alabuga SEZ. The defensive measures consist if two rows of towers, forming an inner and outer perimeter surrounding the key facilities and wider area. It is likely that the towers will be used to install a metal wire mesh around the facilities to protect them from incoming Ukrainian drones and limit the damage that a cruise missile can do (likely a Ukrainian FP-5).
The towers were installed in the last few months and work appears to be ongoing. This complements already existing defensive systems, including several anti-air defense sites and anti-drone cages installed on the roofs of key production facilities.
This comes at a time when Ukraine is stepping up its attacks on Russian infrastructure using long-range strike drones. Given the large effort to rapidly construct these defenses, clearly these facilities are considered very high value to Russia.
