SHAC Article: We Can End the Conspiracy of Silence: Join MPs’ Call for Action Led by @BellRibeiroAddy, around 30 MPs have called on @mtpennycook to get a grip on housing associations and hold them to account, listing a litany of failures. shaction.org/2026/08/20/we-c… Yet this powerful statement on a subject of major national importance has not generated a single inch of media coverage that we have been able to find. It feels like a conspiracy of silence, even when high-profile politicians are making the call for change. During elections, the media regularly reports that housing is one of the top three doorstep issues for voters. It then largely ignores housing issues when the electioneering stops. If failures on this scale receive so little press attention, and if attempts by MPs to call out the sector are so effectively dismissed by the establishment, it is time to build our own power. @andyburnham & @AngelaRayner

He’s been so poor on this. He needs them. He can’t do what he needs to do on 1.5m homes without them.

Indeed! All you need to do is follow the money - decades of ideological opposition to building through councils led successive govts to make pacts with private bodies. They gave them access to £billions from the public purse and simultaneously stripped away accountability.
