On Friday, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office CERT team competed in the 13th Annual S.E.R.T. Challenge hosted by Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office. Events like this push us to sharpen our skills across tactical scenarios, obstacle courses, marksmanship, and team coordination, while building camaraderie and measuring ourselves against the best in the region. It's National Forensic Science Week, and we want to thank our amazing Evidence Technicians! A key part of our Investigations Division, they specialize in processing crime scenes and safeguarding evidence to support criminal investigations. Last year, they processed over 3,000 field calls and handled thousands of pieces of evidence with meticulous care. Preserving evidence and supporting investigations that lead to justice and keep our community safe. Thank you for your service and dedication!

🚨Online Predator Arrested🚨 The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested 34-year-old Matthew Martin in connection with an investigation involving the sexual exploitation of a child. Investigators learned Martin allegedly met a 12-year-old victim through a social media application and engaged in repeated communications containing sexually explicit content. Detectives determined he traveled from San Francisco on multiple occasions to meet with the victim. With assistance from the San Francisco Police Department, detectives located and arrested Martin on July 30, 2026. He was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on multiple felony charges related to child sexual abuse and exploitation. This case serves as an important reminder for parents and guardians to monitor their children’s online activity and discuss the dangers of communicating with strangers on social media. At the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, we remain committed to protecting children and holding offenders accountable.

Today, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office family gathered to honor Deputy James Morgan and celebrate a life defined by service, courage, and love. Family, friends, fellow deputies, and members of the community came together at Cherokee Memorial Park’s Vineyard Chapel in Lodi to pay tribute to a man who served San Joaquin County for more than 12 years with honor, integrity, and a servant’s heart. We are grateful for every person who stood beside Deputy Morgan’s wife, children, and family today. Your presence and support mean more than words can express. Deputy Morgan’s legacy of service and love will live on through the countless lives he touched.

As part of Operation "Hard Ball," the FBI and our law enforcement partners throughout California, other U.S. cities and in Canada, India and Europe collaborated to execute dozens of search and arrest warrants targeting 37 members of violent transnational organizations who are charged with engaging in racketeering, targeted killings, shootings, extortion, the trafficking of bulk quantities of narcotics across international borders, and other crimes around the world. #OperationHardBall

After years of dedicated service, countless deployments, and an unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe, it’s time for one of SJ Sheriff’s very best to hang up the leash. K-9 Axel is officially retiring after more than five years of service to the people of San Joaquin County. Throughout his career, Axel completed more than 300 deployments, assisted in drug interdiction efforts resulting in more than $100,000 in asset forfeitures, and expanded his skills to include off-road operations, search and rescue missions, and water and boat deployments. While Axel took his job seriously, he’s also known for having a taste for expensive furniture and never saying no to a good tug toy. Now, this good boy is trading patrol work for a much more relaxing assignment, staying with his handler as he begins his well-earned retirement upstairs in Investigations. Thank you, Axel, for your loyalty, dedication, and the countless ways you’ve served our community. Enjoy retirement. You’ve earned every minute of it.

Two San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office deputies took the floor at the Police Olympics in San Diego and represented our office with everything they had. Deputy Alcoriza took 1st overall in the Push/Pull event, posting a 391 lbs bench and 573 lbs deadlift. Deputy Jacobson competed in the Bench Press division for the 50-59 age group, hitting 352 lbs for a clean lift and bringing home the gold. He dedicated his win to Sgt. Whelen and wore his shirt on the platform to honor him. Both deputies head to World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) in Australia next! Proud of you both. San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office showed up and showed out!

Yesterday, seven members of the Sheriff’s Office family were recognized by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors for their years of service, including one who is hanging up his badge after 25 years. Congratulations to Samantha Menor on 35 years, Daniel Victoria and Toby Farnsworth on 25 years, and Rawda Villalobos, George Negrete, Leslie Robinson, and James Boles on 20 years each. On Tuesday, June 23, at approximately 11:30 a.m., San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Moon Avenue in Stockton. Upon arrival, a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident fled from the location. A traffic stop was subsequently conducted at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Michigan Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, a deputy observed the driver in possession of what appeared to be a firearm. The deputy discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Medical aid was immediately rendered, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Please understand that this is an active investigation, and we are unable to release further information at this time. We appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience as investigators work to gather the facts surrounding this incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
