Flydubai Flight Diverted After Cockpit Stabbing
A flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv was diverted to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday after one pilot stabbed the other in the cockpit in what Israeli officials describe as an attempted crash or hijacking.
Flight FZ1073, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 registered A6-FKF, departed Dubai International around 7 a.m. local time with roughly 174–180 people on board, including about 27 children. Most passengers were Israeli. Look at the rudder, data recorded an extreme descent rate of approximately -30,000 ft/min.
About two hours into the flight, as the jet approached Israeli airspace, an altercation broke out on the flight deck. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said one pilot stabbed the other and “apparently tried to crash the plane with everyone on board.”
The aircraft transmitted emergency codes, including the hijacking squawk 7500, then dropped thousands of feet in under two minutes. Israeli fighter jets were scrambled. Passengers and extra flydubai crew traveling on the flight forced their way into the cockpit, subdued the attacker, and helped regain control. Off-duty pilots among the passengers took over flying.
The jet landed safely at Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. All passengers were accounted for. Both the captain and first officer were taken to hospital. The captain has been identified in Israeli and Indian reports as Indian national Smit Machchhar; the suspected attacker is described as an Omani co-pilot who has been arrested and is being questioned by Saudi authorities.
Israeli officials are treating the incident as a suspected terror attack. flydubai confirmed an “altercation” in the flight deck that was secured by crew on board. Motive and full details remain under investigation. #Aviation #AviationNews

At approximately 12:34 p.m., Sandy Police received a report of a shooting at a residence in the area.
Initial information indicated that a male may have been shot and that another male, possibly a younger male, may have been shot in the leg.
An ambulance transported one person to the hospital. At this time, it has not been confirmed whether the initial reported shooting occurred or the condition of any other potential victim/s.
I spoke with a Sandy Police sergeant, who confirmed officers are on scene investigating but did not have any additional information to release at this time.
This is an active investigation. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Authorities are responding to reports of shots fired at the Chrome Truck Wash in Beaver. At approx 3:00 PM, Dispatch received information that shots were fired, with multiple law enforcement resources responding including the DPS Helicopter from St George.
Initial reports indicate a truck driver may have shot another driver.
Main Street was closed in both directions as officers work to secure the scene and bring the situation under control.
After about 45 min they determined the report was not valid and a hoax. All units cancelled. @UseSquawk

Skydivers Drop In After Small Plane Crash Near East Troy
EAST TROY, Wis. — A single-engine Beech Debonair (N1288Z) crashed in a cornfield this afternoon near Carver School Road and Lawlor Road.
Reports indicated 2-4 people on board. The occupants of the aircraft have not been identified.
A Cessna Caravan from the local drop zone at East Troy Municipal Airport was in the area. The pilot spotted the wreckage from the air and directed jumpers to parachute into the crash site to assist.
Survivors have been reported. Emergency crews responded to the field.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. How awesome is that? 3 skydivers parachuted to the crash site!
