Farmer Mac showed up in a big way for SOME families this back-to-school season! Their team fulfilled our school supply wish list and donated 270 backpacks , helping students start the year with the tools they need to learn and thrive. And their support goes far beyond back-to-school. Throughout the year, Farmer Mac employees have also assembled grocery bags for SOME housing residents and professional development kits for students at the SOME Center for Employment Training. We’re so grateful for Farmer Mac’s continued partnership and commitment to showing up for our community all year long! 💙

Our dining hall staff hosted the SOME Fashion Show, featuring SOME clients as models who hand-picked their outfits from the SOME Clothing Room. Every piece came from our collection of hundreds of fashionable options for all sizes, including clothing, shoes, and accessories. When people have what they need, they shine.

Earlier this month, our SOME Center for Employment Training (CET) trainees visited @GoldmanSachs for a financial literacy and career development workshop where they gained valuable insight into financial literacy and professional career development. They learned strategies for budgeting, saving, and building financial stability, and heard firsthand career stories from Goldman Sachs professionals. The visit wrapped up with a tour of the penthouse floor and photos overlooking the DC skyline. This visit reinforced CET's commitment to providing learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and prepare trainees for lifelong success. By combining financial education with career exposure, the Goldman Sachs visit equipped trainees with knowledge and confidence that will support their future careers and economic mobility.

Meet Oliver Swain, an 8-year-old change maker who is already building a more compassionate world. For his science fair project, "Ade vs Aid," Oliver got curious about generosity and decided to test it out for himself. Earlier this winter, he had launched "Cocoa for a Cause," a fundraising hot cocoa stand. Oliver’s Ade vs Aid science fair project won first place in second grade at John Lewis Elementary School. Combined, these two projects raised $200 for SOME's mission to serve our neighbors in need. Oliver, we cannot wait to see what you build next. Thanks for supporting SOME’s mission.

SOMEs CET's (Center for Employment Training) Bell Ringing Ceremony brought our community together to celebrate trainees who secured full-time careers in healthcare and building trades. Each graduate shared their journey; from the challenges they faced to the moment they walked into CET ready for a fresh start. Then they proudly rang the bell, marking a new chapter for themselves and their families. Every bell ring represents increased economic stability, career growth, and a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty.

The best way to prepare for the real thing is to practice it. Our Center for Employment Training (CET) trainees did exactly that at our annual Mock Interview Day alongside dedicated volunteers from @IFMA, a partner who has stood with our program for more than 20 years. This event was about building confidence, sharpening skills, and reminding every trainee that they are ready.

What a day of service. SOME partnered with @Thrivent and @dcunited at @HowardU Black Sports Business Symposium, where students came together to assemble 500 snack kits for the people we serve. This is community in action.

Thank you to The Madison of DC and Mission Navy Yard for bringing people together in support of SOME. Guests wrote handwritten notes for our staff and the neighbors we serve, and proceeds from the evening helped support our work providing meals, housing, healthcare, and hope to individuals and families experiencing poverty and homelessness across DC. We’re grateful for partners who continue to show up for our community in thoughtful and impactful ways.

Last week, our Building Trades trainees represented SOME at the DC Builds Hiring Event, and every single one was invited back by top construction employers including Miller and Long, Turner Construction, Clark Construction, and Helix Electric. Congratulations to Kamani, Dale, Kyara, DeMarko, Robert, Ayana, and our alum William. Special recognition to Shadijah and Robert, whose images will be featured in CityWorks DC's Spring 2026 Impact Report. Thank you to CityWorks DC for hosting, and to our Professional Development Specialist Ron for being there with the team.

Our President and CEO Troy Swanda joined the Bozzuto team for the 4th annual ERG & Rise Leadership Summit for a conversation on nonprofits, leadership, and the road ahead for our sector.
