Званични налог Генералног конзулата Републике Србије у Њујорку / Official account of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York

New York City, NY
Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists attacked Israel, murdering approximately 1,200 people and taking 251 others hostage. We honor the memory of the victims of that horrific attack and extend our deepest compassion to those who were taken hostage, their families, and all those whose lives were forever changed by that terrible day. As Ambassador and Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, President of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, and Chairman of the Global Consular Leadership Council of United World Leaders, I believe we have a duty to condemn terrorism, the deliberate targeting of civilians, and hostage-taking clearly and unequivocally. No political objective can ever justify such acts. We must also stand united against the surge in antisemitism since October 7. Hatred cannot be overcome by denying, distorting, or diminishing the suffering of others. We have a responsibility to preserve the truth, honor the memory of those who were killed, and reject every attempt to justify or glorify violence against civilians. At the same time, we mourn the immense loss of innocent Palestinian lives in the war that followed. The protection of civilians, unhindered humanitarian assistance, and respect for international humanitarian law must remain obligations shared by all. Every child deserves the chance to grow up in peace, and every family deserves safety, dignity, and hope for a secure future. Here in New York, our shared home, our responsibility as diplomats is to build trust, bring communities together, and create space for meaningful dialogue — while remaining unequivocal in our condemnation of terrorism, antisemitism, hatred, and the targeting of civilians. The victims deserve remembrance and justice. The families of those who were taken hostage deserve answers and healing. Serbia remains committed to a future in which Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in peace, security, and dignity. May the remembrance of October 7 remain an enduring call to responsibility, humanity, and a renewed commitment to peace.
