The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is hosting Russian violinist Vadim Repin as a guest artist for its upcoming performance season, four years after the organization canceled a performance by Repin in-part to support Ukraine.
In March 2022, Repin’s performance at the Annapolis Symphony was canceled, with the orchestra citing “immediate support for Ukraine during the ongoing invasion by Russia.” The orchestra added that the decision was also made out of respect for Repin’s “apolitical stance” and safety concerns. His performance was replaced by a musical tribute to Ukraine, with part of the proceeds going to the Ukraine Crisis Fund.
The scheduled performance fell less than two weeks after Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, following the 2014 annexation of Crimea. Read more: bit.ly/48dl0MS
