McDonald's is spending 8.5 billion dollars to find out why families stopped coming. I can save them the 8.5 billion. They took out the playground. The plan, announced Wednesday at investor day. Better food, faster service, new equipment, AI tools, hospitality training, and a bigger push into chicken and beverages. They call it Next. The goal, they say, is making customers feel more comfortable. Wall Street loved it so much the stock fell 5 percent to its lowest since 2022. Over five years McDonald's shares are down 3 percent. Burger King's parent is up 14. The owner of Taco Bell and KFC is up 13. This is not a hamburger problem. This is a McDonald's problem. So let us talk about who used to eat there. Parents. That was the whole business. Parents at 5:40 on a Tuesday with three kids in the back and nothing thawed at home. You did not go for the burger. You went because your kids could run screaming through a plastic tube for 40 minutes while you sat with a coffee and experienced silence. That was the product. The food was the cover charge. The first PlayPlace opened in 1971 in Birmingham, Alabama, and for fifty years it did one job. It made small children demand to go to McDonald's. Then 2020 arrived, every play area in the country closed, and a great many never came back. The equipment came out during a remodeling program named Experience of the Future. A seventeen year old hands you a bag and says my pleasure and means it about 70 percent, which is 70 percent more than a touchscreen has managed. McDonald's is spending 8.5 billion on hospitality training. Chick-fil-A earns 8.5 million per restaurant by just having some. So here is my consulting proposal, free of charge, on behalf of mothers everywhere. Put the playgrounds back. Not a nostalgia campaign. Not a retro cup. The structure. Tubes, slides, a door the kids cannot open from the inside, and a bench where a tired woman can sit. And understand what you are buying, because it is not lunch. A six year old does not know your food is bad. He has no basis for comparison and no functioning palate. He thinks the burger is incredible because he is standing in a castle made of tubes. As the Victorian Royal commission into construction corruption is about to kick off, those in charge of it must consider this. When the Dan Andrews Labor Government gained power from the Coalition in 2014, the first thing they did was tear up a contract signed by previous Govt and give a vast sum of Vic taxpayers money to European companies, to NOT build East/West road link. Dan Andrews ‘this project is a dog, it doesn’t stack up’. He blamed poor value for money, among other things. The, most likely, real reason was that in the contract, the CFMEU, that controls the Labor Party, were heavily restricted from the project, because The Napthine led Victorian Coalition Govt knew the CFMEU would catastrophically blow out costs. From 2014 till now, the Victorian Labor Govt have embarked on a gigantic amount of construction and placed the CFMEU in control of all major projects, and almost all smaller ones. Roads, train tunnels, stations, hospitals and so on, and almost every single project has blown out by millions upon billions upon more billions. Overseas project managers are completely shocked at how much Victorian Govt Builds cost. This has been a major factor in the extraordinary rise in taxes placed upon honest Victorians. Also a state debt vastly bigger than every other state, leading to a crippling recurring interest bill, while essential services in Victoria are being chronically underfunded. This has led to many deaths of honest Victorians in ways like, accidents because of severely neglected roads, heart attack deaths because no ambulance response in time, violent crimes because not enough police, and suicides because the financial stress of severe over taxation has pushed honest people over the edge. Every member of The Victorian Government since 2014 is complicit. Either likely directly corrupt themselves, too cowardly to speak up, or just unaware, because they were too lazy and well paid to care. The blame is also shared by all major companies involved in Victorian Govt funded building projects since 2014, and that includes the banks, who have provided financing. They all reap billions in profit. They all must know about the theft and must have always known. Why have they done nothing? Most likely because the motto is ‘Everyone eats on the Big Build’. They die on horribly neglected country roads. The theft continues in 2026 and will continue until courageous people take a stand. Those people will deserve a statue. It sure won’t be Albanese. He is best friends with Dan Andrews, is controlled by the same Labor left faction, and recently rushed through federal laws to ensure Federally funded Building sites follow the Victorian model. It beggars belief. This royal commission has a chance to stop it, if people with courage are willing to speak up, for once. Future generations will thank you long after you’re gone.
