I don’t even know how to put into words what Lionel Messi means to me.
Messi made me fall in love with football. But somewhere along the way, he became much more than football to me.
He gave me a kind of joy that I honestly never found anywhere else. Watching him play could make a bad day disappear. It could make me forget everything for 90 minutes and just enjoy the beauty of the game.
But what he taught me went far beyond what he did with a football.
He taught me to never give up, even when the journey feels fruitless. To keep going when everything tells you that you’re not going to make it.
He taught me that no matter how high you climb, you should never lose yourself. Stay grounded. Stay humble. Focus on what actually matters.
And perhaps my favourite lesson of all: you don’t always have to talk to make yourself heard.
Messi never spent his career telling people he was the best. He never needed to convince anyone.
He just stepped onto the pitch.
One touch. One pass. One dribble. One look.
And you knew.
That was Messi.
He communicated through his football in a way I don’t think I’ll ever see again.
I’ve watched countless footballers, but nobody has ever made me feel the way Messi did. Nobody has given me that same feeling of anticipation every time the ball came near their feet.
I grew up watching him.
I watched the goals, the assists, the trophies, the heartbreak, the comebacks, the nights when everything seemed impossible and somehow he still found a way.
And now it’s over.
I know football will continue. I’ll find new players to admire, new moments to celebrate, new memories to make.
But there will never be another first Messi.
The player who made me fall in love with this game.
The player who gave me some of the happiest moments of my life.
The player who taught me lessons without ever having to say a word.
I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life.
Thank you, Leo.
For the football.
For the joy.
For the inspiration.
For showing me that sometimes the most powerful way to speak is simply to let your work speak for you.
I will forever be grateful that I got to live in the era of Lionel Messi.
My GOAT. My inspiration. My favourite footballer ever.
Thank you for everything. 🐐🇦🇷 he
