The most iconic photograph of Led Zeppelin standing directly in front of the Starship airplane was taken on July 24, 1973, by rock photographer Bob Gruen on the tarmac at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, just outside New York City. The band was boarding the jet to fly to their performance at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, later that evening; right before they boarded, Robert Plant asked Gruen to snap a photo of them with the plane, producing one of the most famous images in rock history.🥰
Led Zeppelin poses in front of the "Starship," the Boeing 720 they chartered for their 1973 North American tour.
The plane, equipped with a lounge, bar, electric fireplace, and even an organ, became a symbol of the excess and economic power the band had attained at that stage, coinciding with the “Houses of the Holy” tour, one of the highest-grossing rock tours to date.
Other artists such as Deep Purple and The Rolling Stones also went on to charter the same aircraft in subsequent years.
