Chalmers does comedy… ‘Premier investment destination’… 😂😂😂 Australia has the second highest company tax rate in the OECD.
I’ll be engaging with more than 30 business leaders and investors and my Japanese counterpart in Tokyo in a packed couple of days to showcase Australia as a premier investment destination. This is all about strengthening cooperation, boosting investment and building resilience in both our economies in Australia’s national interest.

😂😂😂 Most are Australian registered and domiciled companies that hold shareholding’s of Australian companies in trust & managed for Australian Superannuation funds or Managed funds on behalf of the Australian policyholders. The Australian Institute produces utter bullshit!

FIGHT INFLATION FIRST – THEN SPRINT ON PRODUCTIVITY Although we talk lots about our cost-of-living problems, they’re just a symptom: it’s inflation that’s the cause: - Our wages aren’t buying as much because prices outsprinted them. - Our tax burden is nudging record rates because inflation acts as a tax. - And our mortgage rates are up because the Reserve Bank needs them there to fight inflation. So if we want to start to get on top of our cost-of-living problems, then TINA – There Is No Alternative but to fight inflation first. And whether that happens via the RBA playing a lone hand or if some other spending is also cut to help them along the way doesn’t matter as much as ensuring that the job actually gets done ASAP. But wait, there’s more ... Fixing inflation is vital, but it isn’t enough. There’s a deeper problem. Australia keeps getting spurts of inflation because the productivity engine of our economy is completely clapped out. We start to generate more inflation every time this nation gets more than five minutes of economic sunshine. The solution is a faster economic speed limit. Once this nation does get inflation down, we need to turn absolutely all our energies towards getting productivity up. A decade of being stuck in the slow lane is eviscerating our politics. We’re getting better and better at hating each other, but worse and worse at solving our problems. The most read book in policy circles in recent years is Abundance. It argues that nations need to cut through the thicket of well-meaning regulations that have crippled the ability to advance in everything from housing to health care. But Australia has spent decades becoming the anti-Abundance nation. We’ve stalled our living standards. And unless and until we create a growing pie-per-person, our politics will keep scrapping viciously over stagnant slices of the pie. It’s long past time to get serious on productivity.

You are too kind to imply that the Albanese Govt has been slow about getting serious on productivity. The truth is that they are deliberate and very driven to destroy productivity. Layers of new corporate red tape, more complex tax system, higher taxes, and more rigid IR regulations. They pay lip service to productivity, while everything they do makes business, work and investment harder and less rewarding. As a result, capital is going on strike, or leaving.

Federal Labor Digital Minister Andrew Charlton was a Kevin Rudd staffer back in his PM days. When KRudd imploded, Andrew started a consultancy helping business ‘Connect with Government’, he sold it to Accenture for 35 million in 2020. Over 32 million of that was ‘goodwill’. Andrew then worked for Accenture for a while. He bought a 2 million dollar house in Parramatta to get that safe Labor seat in 2022 election, while mainly still living in an Eastern Suburbs mansion. Accenture get massive Federal Government contracts to improve things like the BOM website, 80 million went to Accenture for that. The website got worse, not better. After that flop, Accenture got even more taxpayer funded contracts, around a billion dollars worth, funded by the ATO sending small businesses broke and taxpayer debt. Apparently Andrew has nothing to do with Accenture getting contracts. Andrew is what Labor is now. He may be their next leader.
Speaking of Showbridge - known as the $10 million wife’s man - Labor’s Andrew Charlton’s is way richer The Parramatta MP owns a staggering $42 million worth of property. Given the amount of hardship in Parramatta, why do they keep voting for him? Charlton thinks he’s going to be Prime Minister but unless he’s going to undermine Albanese, it’s unlikely there’s an appetite from Australians to elect someone that privileged

Good to see Lowe being forthright. Not sure he was so candid in the past. This spending problem goes back many years by both sides in govt, and even further enabled by each when in opposition. Those commentators & economists calling it out have been ignored or disparaged.
“We're spending today and leaving the debt for our kids.” Former Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Dr Philip Lowe joins IPA Chief Economist Adam Creighton as the inaugural guest of ‘The Prosperity Question' podcast to warn that Australia's persistent budget deficits are leaving future generations with more debt, more interest and a lower standard of living. 📺 Watch the full discussion: bit.ly/4hk1ovs #GovernmentSpending #Debt #Australia

lol… Every single day of the year solar fails to work.
Chris Bowen says there hasn’t been a day in the past four years a coal-fired power plant hasn’t broken down without notice, proving renewables are more reliable. Read the full story: bit.ly/4zoCEbF

Compelling: The West’s net-zero policies are handing China a huge strategic advantage While Western nations close reliable energy and raise costs, China adds wind and solar without giving up coal, oil or gas—then sells us the panels, batteries and other products our mandates require China’s approach is “add, don’t subtract”: build renewables and nuclear power while continuing to expand fossil fuels. This supplies cheap, dependable energy for Chinese industry. Meanwhile, many Western governments deliberately make their own energy more expensive and become increasingly dependent on Chinese solar panels, batteries, critical minerals and manufacturing. Western climate organizations scrutinize democracies far more aggressively than China, where independent activism is impossible and access depends on the state. Climate policy should be judged by its actual effect on global emissions, energy prices, industrial competitiveness and dependence on China—not simply by whether it appears ambitious at home. tabletmag.com/sections/news/…

To believe that letting people access their Super is 'inflationary' you also have to believe that high wages cause inflation, that tax cuts cause inflation, or that consumer choice causes inflation.

Someone should tell Quentin et al. about the war on nicotine. Nicotine has won.
Angus Taylor and Matt Canavan want to drop the price of cigarettes supposedly to stymie Australia’s black market. Fellas : it won’t work. Bikies and gangsters need to be rooted out by enhanced law enforcement. Maintain the excise. It has worked to save Australian lives. And by the way … smoking KILLS. Pauline and the Beetrooter don’t have a clue.

The illicit tobacco industry is a policing and health issue, not a tax one. 66 Australians die every day from tobacco smoking. If the excise is cut and cigarettes are cheaper, people will smoke more. We should deal with illicit tobacco as we do with illegal alcohol, drugs and firearms - by strong border controls and effective policing. abc.net.au/news/2026-09-03/c…

Seriously, I don’t understand how you are in parliament @Mon4Kooyong ! Australia nicotine regulation is a globally embarrassing failure. Tax revenue collapses, smoking rates increase, crime is booming. That said it’s unsurprising, everything you stand for is a mess.

Can’t really draw conclusions on current market from this data. The lead time from initial concept development, document preparation, to lodging an application then finally gaining consent is probably 1-2 years, particularly in NSW.
