After 1,000 calls with job seekers, these were the quotes from candidates that got me. Since last year, I've held free 15-minute calls with anyone looking for work. Everyone below agreed to be quoted (anonymously): "My father had terminal cancer... During that process, then I got cancer." -A candidate worried about the gap on their resume. "I'm literally spending like $60 every time I interview... There's no money left. I have no options." - A single parent, laid off twice "I'm currently living on social benefits, and it's very low amount of money." - A refugee "I survived five layoffs, and then... I was part of number six." - A customer success manager "I might have made like at least a thousand applications.
