I adored maths in secondary school. For the Leaving Cert I even bought myself a much higher quality compass than necessary, and went off curriculum for a much more beautiful proof of Pythagoras's theorem.
It pains me to see what's on the cards for it.

Very important intervention on one of the most important, if not the most important, subjects taught in schools. Those with expertise need to be listened to.
There have been plenty of serious mistakes made in a more than a century of Irish independence, but education policy has been perhaps the greatest success - as evidenced again just last week in the PISA rankings of 15 year olds' numeracy and literacy.
