Mary had lived in her home for 58 years when a landslide caused by Hurricane Helene destroyed everything she had ever known. By all accounts, she should not have made it out alive. The only part of her home left standing was the corner she was in. God’s hand of protection was on her. When she got the call from Samaritan’s Purse saying she would be the recipient of a new home, she couldn’t imagine why anyone would help her. She never expected to have another home to call her own, let alone a brand new one. Her spunk and smile brought laughter to all the volunteers on hand to welcome her home, as she walked around opening cabinets, peeking in doors, and admiring the furniture. She sat side by side with her lifelong best friend in an overstuffed chair in her new living room - in disbelief of all that God has done. She’s now in a home that will keep her secure for all the years to come and surrounded by generations of family who live on the same piece of land just feet from her front door. We praise God for allowing us to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in giving Mary a new home so that she can be settled and safe! We praise God that we were able to provide brand new vehicles to 6 families who lost theirs in flooding in Texas. After Ramon spent 30 years building a life and home it was all washed away in a matter of moments. He didn’t want to leave his house initially, believing that he would be fine upstairs. The property had never flooded before. When his family finally convinced him to leave, the water was at his waist. Everything in the house was upside down and floating. His car was ruined as well. Ramon felt like his life was over. His wife had passed away in 2021 after 51 years of marriage. He was ready to go home and be with the Lord. But it seemed God wasn’t finished with him yet. He was reminded of Philippians 1:21 “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” “When he was seeing the flood rise he didn't understand God's plan. But now he sees that God has a plan for everything, even in this disaster,” Ramon’s daughter, Victoria, said. As our team handed him the keys to his new car, he looked heavenward and blinked back tears. “I am just so grateful that y'all are here, that you’ve blessed my dad with so much,” Victoria said. His hope was really, really down, but once I told him that we had gotten in contact with Samaritan Purse and that they might be able to replace his vehicle and replace some of his furniture, he was just in awe.” Although the car won’t last forever, God’s love doesn’t wear out with time. Girls in Aviation Day is designed to open the runway to the skies for young girls curious about flight. ✈️ This is a personal mission for many of the women serving in aviation with Samaritan’s Purse. Beth Latshaw loves this event because it gives her the chance to provide aspiring young women with an opportunity she never had. As a girl herself, Beth struggled to find an entry point into aviation at a time when being a pilot was a primarily male field. Now, working as a pilot for Samaritan’s Purse, Beth has flown our Boeing 767 cargo plane on disaster relief missions to places including Jamaica, Saipan, and Venezuela. Through flight, Beth has the opportunity to share the Gospel and the hope of Jesus to those who are hurting, both around the world and at events like Girls in Aviation. This year, more than 200 people came through the doors of the Samaritan’s Purse hangar and Beth hopes one day, they’ll take over for her as the next generation of female aviators. 👩‍✈️

Praise Report: As our Indiana flood response has come to an end, we praise God for all those who volunteered and the Divine appointments He provided for us to share the Gospel. We now have 13 new brothers and sisters in Christ!

We praise God that 11 children in North Carolina professed their faith in Christ through our discipleship course, The Greatest Journey! For many years, The Greatest Journey has been a resource for our church partners overseas to continue their outreach to boys and girls who have received Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts. Life had been very simple for Khushi and her husband, Pandu, in their hometown of Bhaise in northern Nepal. Khushi enjoyed staying at home and raising her two daughters, while her husband, Pandu, worked as a bus driver. “Everything was easy and comfortable before the flood came,” Khushi said. But on August 26th, their entire world was turned upside down. Khushi had taken their youngest daughter to Kathmandu for a day trip, while their oldest was visiting relatives across the Trishuli̇ River. Pandu had just dropped off passengers when a friend notified him that a flood was coming. While he tried to make it home to warn his community, it was too late – the wall of water, ice, and rock was already plunging toward his home. “Not only my home, but the village was swept away by the flood,” he said. “Many of my friends are still missing. I went to the river to find them, but I couldn’t.” For four days, he and Khushi couldn’t reach their daughter across the river, as all bridges had been destroyed. Thankfully, a military helicopter eventually reunited her with her parents and sister. Since the catastrophic flood, the family has been staying in a shelter for displaced people. Without electricity or beds, Pandu was worried his children would get sick. But when a coworker told him about a distribution, the family jumped on his motorcycle and made their way to the site. Partnering with one of our local Christian partners, Samaritan’s Purse distributed essential relief items for families displaced by the flood, including tarps, household water filters, blankets, hygiene kits, and solar lights. “We are in a bad situation because we don't have anything,” she said. “So, these items are very helpful for us.” Please pray for Khushi and his family as well as all those who are suffering in the wake of this tragedyl

Welcome to a breakfast block party to dedicate a brand new bridge built by Samaritan’s Purse to replace one destroyed by Hurricane Helene! 🥞🛠️ Jerry and his neighbors were trapped for six days after the storm washed away their bridge - the only way in and out for the twelve families living in their small community. They spent days working together to clear trees and make a place where they could ford the rushing river. Eventually, the residents put together a makeshift bridge they built themselves, but each time they drove across it, they knew it wouldn’t last forever. The cost of a new bridge, along with permitting, engineering, securing a contractor, and finding building materials was too overwhelming for the families. Jerry got in touch with Samaritan’s Purse and filled out an application for a bridge replacement. Our rebuild team immediately stepped in to help, covering the cost in full for a brand new bridge - far stronger and more equipped to withstand future storms than what was there in the first place. Last week, residents gathered together and held a breakfast block party to officially dedicate their bridge. They hauled picnic tables onto the new structure and served up pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon. They reflected on how their lives have changed in the two years since Helene swept through western North Carolina and all that God has done in the time since. Jerry asked for not one but TWO “Given in Jesus’ Name by Samaritan’s Purse” signs for their bridge, so that all who drive across it know it’s all because of Jesus. “The Lord took it all away and He brought it all back,” he said.
