Discourse has started around this again and it’s incredibly stoopid.
Just because YOU don’t want to pay that much for an animation doesn’t mean the animation isn’t worth that much. It’s clearly priced right because the artists’s commissions are closed, which means their slots are full. There are plenty of fish in the sea, find an artist in your price range.
Once you do commissions for a while you sorta figure out how charge how much: it’s a combination of how much work you do, what your time is worth, and how much your customers are willing to pay. If you are consistently selling out, then you’ve got the number right. If you increase it and it still sells, you have the number right. If you increase it and it significantly slows down, you need to decrease the price. Whatever it is consistently selling for is how much it’s worth to the market (but not always how much it’s worth to the artist.)
$250 per second (12-24 sketched, inked, colored, shaded images) for this type of smooth animation is completely reasonable and meant for longer pieces. The loop is also VERY reasonably priced.
Opening Animation Commissions again! 🎨
