Some 30-40 years ago these perforated bespoke shoes were typical summer shoes in Vienna. They made it possible to keep a bit of footwear elegance in the heat.

During the mid-20th century, Ivy Style clothiers such as The Andover Shop and Winston Tailors made patchwork garments for their more playful customers. Companies like Ralph Lauren, Bode, and Beams have since riffed on that tradition. IMO, the style only works in specific fabrics.
