It’s hard to watch this video. A reporter asked Cindy Hyde-Smith a serious question about Nolan Wells' tragic passing, and she chose to run away and call security. At the very least, she could have acknowledged Nolan’s family and offered her condolences for their tremendous loss.
For everyone who knew Nolan and loved him, this is deeply disappointing. No matter your politics, there should always be some basic humanity when talking about someone who lost his life — especially from an elected official. Mississippi deserves better.

I’m proud the Senate unanimously passed the Vicksburg Military Park Boundary Modification Act, sending it to the President’s desk. I’m also pleased the entire Mississippi delegation supported this bill, which represents a monumental step for Vicksburg National Military Park and the State of Mississippi. The land transfer gives our state the ability to tell the complete story of the Siege of Vicksburg for generations to come, and I look forward to seeing these improvements enhance one of our most visited and treasured parks.
