Got Petafab running on iOS. Initially Codex capped frame rate to 30Hz, assuming we follow standard Unity conventions. Silly choice. I want to try to hit 120Hz of course. Here rendering at 94 fps in menus (full level). But in game it drops down to ~60 fps (+enemies + simulation).

This is iPhone 15 Pro. It will actually be the min spec for the game, since App Store iphone-performance-gaming-tier flag is the only way to ensure Metal 4 support. We lose half of Metal 4 devices, but that's life. There's no more fine grained controls in App Store.

did it mention the cap anywhere, or did you only catch it from the frame counter?

Frame counter stayed on 30Hz. It didn't even mention it. Also it added an upscaler. That's not native res. That's around 1920x1080. Didn't mention that either.

So for guaranteed sustained performance you will target 30 fps, right? Or will you reduce graphics quality a little which won't be too noticeable on a small-screen devices?

Definitely not. 30Hz feels super bad. It's either going to be 60Hz lock, variable between 60-120Hz or 120Hz lock. Depending how much optimization effort I am able to fit in my super tight launch schedule.

Does this build have any Apple-specific optimizations? (For example, Apple GPUs you target support better ASTC compression which is not available on PC GPUs).

No. Today is the first time it launched on a phone. Metal 4 porting work started yesterday. Getting it running was the only goal. Haven't even stated the GPU profiler yet. Let's do that next.
