Together with @EU_Commission President @vonderleyen, I welcome the agreement by the EU member states on the derogation for Ukraine to purchase crucial products for Patriot air defence systems. The next disbursement of $3.5 billion will enable Ukraine to better protect its skies from Russia’s indiscriminate attacks. Over the past year, #NATO Allies have allocated over $10 billion to PURL and US Foreign Military Sales for Ukraine. NATO and the EU will continue to work hand in hand to support Ukraine. It is yet another example of Europe stepping up.

I just spoke with @Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz. NATO stands in full solidarity with Germany after the Russian hybrid attack in Leipzig on 4 August. The evidence is clear. And I welcome the measures announced by Germany in response. NATO will continue to strengthen our ability to deter and defend all Allies against any threat – including malign actions like those seen in Leipzig and elsewhere across the Alliance. Discussed with @donaldtusk the violation of Poland’s airspace by a Russian missile. Poland and #NATO activated their air and ground defences. We stand in solidarity with Poland and will continue to strengthen our readiness to defend against any threat, including missile attacks. This incident is yet another reckless act by Russia and a dangerous consequence of its war against Ukraine. I condemn last night’s deadly strikes across Ukraine.
