Yoko Taro says he made Nier Automata the RPG he wanted and “tried to stay hidden from Square Enix as much as possible.” The number under that quote is 300,000 copies, Square’s internal target. That’s not a publisher giving an auteur room. That’s a project they already priced as a miss. What people will misread is the hiding. He wasn’t dodging story notes. He was dodging the 10am badge-in so the build could get past the point where a 300k game gets cancelled. Saito threatening to quit is the same move from the other desk. Platinum built it. Despera got a manga date today in Madrid. Konaka and ABe, 2027. That year was already their anime year. They did not move the calendar. That is the Switch 2 Fire Emblem so far. Smoother than the last two. Not a tech flex.

Selling my PS5 was the best thing I did. Got decent money for it, kept every disc I actually cared about, and moved to PC. Now Sony’s saying new games after 2028 won’t even come on disc and you’re stuck in their store. I used to get stressed about that stuff. I don’t anymore. On PC I just buy the game where it’s cheapest and it stays mine. Can’t believe I waited so long.
