"Homebuilders say they can't find workers amid the ICE crackdowns." Logically unpack that sentence: "Can't find workers" does not mean zero people exist who can swing a hammer. It means they cannot fill crews at the wages, hours, conditions, and hiring practices they were using yesterday. "Amid the ICE crackdowns" identifies which workers disappeared from the pool: the ones ICE is targeting. That is an admission that a meaningful share of their prior labor supply was unauthorized. The unspoken third clause is therefore: the legal/American labor market is not filling those slots at the old price. If it were, the complaint would be different ("we raised pay 30% and still came up short") instead of "enforcement happened and now we have no crews." The statement is not evidence that Americans refuse construction work. It is evidence that the industry’s previous equilibrium relied on a lower-cost, higher-risk labor source that enforcement has now disrupted.

Mexico is the source of 99% of U.S. winter strawberry imports -- meaning the fruit is harvested between November 1 and March 31. It supplements Florida's production. It isn’t just strawberries. In January the tomato, cucumber, pepper, berry, and grape aisle is an import aisle. Mexico sends us about three-quarters of our fresh vegetable imports, and 90% of imported tomatoes. Mexico takes about one-sixth of U.S. diesel exports — roughly 220,000 barrels a day. Latin America as a whole takes on the order of half our diesel exports. Winter grapes are 99% from Peru, Chile, and Mexico. Chile — our No. 2 diesel export customer — is also what puts cherries and blueberries in the store in January. Fresh winter produce is harvested and hauled using diesel powered equipment. We are about to export ban a fuel shock into the countries that stock a good portion of our winter produce sections. Crazy to think about how Trump could’ve had one of the most successful and popular presidential terms in modern American history… and they completely punted it. He was elected by a historic coalition and was the first Republican to win the popular vote in decades because of two issues: inflation and illegal immigration. Inflation was already falling after the Covid and Biden era spending. All he had to do was close the border, conduct mass deportations, and let the economy/AI cook while pushing through deregulation. Instead, after explicitly running on ending foreign wars, he immediately started a war with Iran which has taken over the entire term. Inflation, energy prices and mortgage rates have all climbed and are heading in the wrong direction. His approval is at an all-time low. He sacrificed his own domestic agenda for a war in the Middle East alongside Israel. Republicans are now going to lose the House, possibly the Senate, and the next 2 years will be nothing but DC gridlock and investigations. The odds of handing America to the far-left in 2028 have also dramatically increased.
