Northwestern – 3.5 If you watched the Colorado-Georgia Tech game, your eyeballs may have just recovered.  While we cashed our CU ticket, it was more bad GT than good Colorado.  Juju Lewis has failed to show any progression at QB despite Brennan Marion now at OC.  Last week we saw this defense give up nearly 400 years of offense and 21 points to WEBER ST.  A bad Weber State team, and while the score was not close, the points for Weber were not in garbage time as they gave up 14 points in the first half.  Granted, one TD was on a short field off a Lewis fumble, but he is prone to costly mistakes.  This CU defense also allowed Weber to convert 8/17 on third down, yikes.  Meanwhile, Northwestern comes in off a bye with their lone victory against FCS SDST.  I’ll take the more disciplined, better coached team, off the bye.   Colorado State +17.5 So, here’s the thing.  We’ve seen this play before.  Here comes Shamlocks to bet against BYU and lose his money.  Yes, yes, BYU is 12-4 against the number in its last 16 which probably puts me roughly around 4-12 betting against the Cougars.  I’ll have my stats and info department check my math.  That said, I’ll go against them here again.  This team lacks explosiveness on offense, and with a ground-oriented attack, we will have fewer possessions and a fast moving game.  With Colorado State, we get Jim Mora who was such an overachiever at UCONN now in his first year with the Rams.  The boys from Fort Collins will be jacked to play this prime time game on CBS, not the little brother sports network, big boy CBS, 60 minutes CBS.  Yes, what used to be the spot for LSU-Ole Miss, is now BYU and Colorado St.  I’ll take the Rams here in this mini out of conference sandwich spot for the Cougs.  New Mexico +21.5 I’ll keep this one simple.  Jason Eck is the man.  Enjoy him now Lobos because he won’t be there next year.  Keep your eye on prediction markets as he could be at Clemson or FSU next year.  We saw this team go to Ann Arbor last year and make it a 4 quarter game.  They went to UCLA and blew them out.  If you’re going to give me 3+ TDs with this guy, especially against this inept Oklahoma offense, yea I’m in. Rice +9.5 So who wants to bet on a team that just lost 52-0 last week?  Well, listen guys, Rice had zero chance against the Irish defense, few teams will.  Now they get Western Michigan, a team everyone is rooting for after the game was stolen from them against Michigan.  That game will stick in bettor’s minds. “That’s the team that should’ve beat Michigan, they ‘ll bet Rice easy!”  As Lee Corso would say, not so fast.  Let’s not forget Western Michigan had zero TDs and only 221 yards against the Wolverines.  And while Rice was getting blown out by the Irish, they held them to only 118 yards rushing.  In what I expect to be another fast moving, low possession game.  I’ll take the Owls here.  South Carolina -3.5 Well (Super) Kamario Taylor is now on everyone’s radar and shooting up the NFL draft boards after looking so, so impressive after the Bulldogs destroyed Minnesota last week.  Minnesota, you know, the team that pumps out NFL talent and goes 7-6 every year. Let’s pump the breaks.  Big step up in competition as he is going against a South Carolina team that gets their star DE Dylan Stewart back that will put pressure on Taylor and force him into mistakes.  I don’t believe Taylor has made that big of a step forward from last year and has merely looked impressive against inferior competition.  While I’m a big fan of Jeff Lebby and usually look to back him, especially against a coach like Beamer, the Bulldogs just seem too trendy to me and I’ll take the Gamecocks.
