Project IMG at American College of Surgeons 2026! 🩵🤍 What a great opening day at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress (ACS) @amcollsurgeons 2026 in Washington, D.C.! 🙌 More than 80 IMGs from the Project IMG community are attending ACS this year, and today was all about what Project IMG represents: connecting, networking, supporting one another, and bringing the IMG community together. It was especially meaningful to reconnect with members of our community whose journeys we have watched over the years. Dr. Yeisson, now a PGY-3 at Montefiore in New York, has been part of Project IMG for more than four years and joined us at our Project IMG events at Randall’s Island back in 2022. Dr. Peks was there at our very first @theimgevent in Central Park in 2021 — and today he is continuing his journey in General Surgery residency at NYU. 🙌 We also connected with Dr. Rodrigo currently in Surgery residency in Miami, Project IMG residents from the University of Texas, and so many IMGs at different stages of their journeys. We even met members of our Project IMG Qatar community! 🇶🇦🌎 From New York to Miami, Texas, Qatar, and many other places around the world, this is what happens when we keep building the community and creating opportunities to connect. And we are just getting started! 🔥 📍 Tomorrow at 11:00 AM — make sure to join the IMG Section at ACS! If you’re at the conference, come connect with the community. 80+ @ProjectImg community members. One ACS Clinical Congress. IMGs from around the world. 🌎🩵🤍 See everyone tomorrow! 🙌 #ProjectIMG #ACSCC26 #Surgery #SurgicalResidency

We are SO excited to announce this next iteration of the LEAN Scholars through @AcademicSurgery. Do you know an undergraduate who wants a mentored experience to bolster their interest in academic medicine? Send them our way! @DukeGSIG @DukeMAPS @OhioUMAPS @maps_uiuc @MAPSGSU
Know an undergraduate student who is interested in medicine, surgery, or research? The AAS LEAN Scholars Program is now accepting applications for its next cohort — and a simple share or introduction from you could be the opportunity that changes their path. LEAN Scholars receive longitudinal mentorship from medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty surgeons, along with practical support through the medical school application process. The program welcomes students at all stages of exploration, including those who are early in their journey or who have not yet had access to established professional networks. Application deadline: October 5, 2026. aasurg.org/aas-l-e-a-n-progr… Share this with a student who should apply.

New Paper in @SurgJournal Do chronic steroids increase complications after distal pancreatectomy? Ganguli et al. analyzed 6,876 patients undergoing DP for pancreatic adenocarcinoma (ACS-NSQIP 2018–2024). 623 (9.1%) were chronic steroid users.

🎯 Chronic steroid use was not associated with increased short-term morbidity or mortality after DP in this cohort. No increased risk detected ≠ no risk exists.

Meet PGY-1 resident Kristín Haraldsdóttir, MD! Outside the hospital, Kristín enjoys singing, dancing, knitting, cooking, and playing the harp. A favorite Iowa memory is celebrating her first Fourth of July & experiencing the kindness of co-residents who helped her feel at home.
