My preferred lean as a Tshwane coalition solution? A simple DA-ANC arrangement, with a few simple agreements, safeguards and carrots as main building blocks. It keeps the GNU theme going, and prevents the volatile, unstable DA-ActionSA coalition from being necessary. It has a lot wrong with it, but it's the least wrong option after ActionSA's expressed decisions and demands these last few hours. It's of course not the only permutation, and until recently I called for a DA-ActionSA collaboration, but I'm no longer convinced that these parties are ready for the political maturity and skill that such a marriage would demand

I'm realizing that we didn't love the ANC the same. To us it was a church, it was sacrosanct, it was an institution for black people's freedom and upliftment. To others it was an opportunity to get rich and exercise power. There are some who would rather it die in their hands , then release it because for them it is a livelihood....to us it was a philosophy.

With 97% of the vote captured it is clear that Ekurhuleni mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza and MMC for Finance Jongizizwe Dlabathi will lose their seats in the Ekurhuleni council as the ANC are most likely to have no PR councillors.

My advice to the ANC is simple: do not enter a coalition with ActionSA. If anything, the ANC and DA should quietly work towards putting ActionSA to bed politically. Without a presence in Tshwane, ASA risks becoming increasingly irrelevant ahead of 2029 and 2031. Such an arrangement would also prevent ActionSA from further eroding the ANC's township support, while giving the ANC an opportunity to demonstrate genuine political renewal by participating in a stable, DA-led local government. Sometimes political survival requires making strategic compromises, not emotional alliances.

MBALULA: The people of South Africa have spoken. As the ANC we have heard that my people. We recognise that many South Africans who once placed their confidence in the ANC have chosen to support other parties. Others have withdrawn from electoral participation altogether. We recognise their concerns, we will not question their judgement or explain away their decisions. We will confront the reasons why people who once regarded the ANC as their natural political home have become disillusioned with our movement.

Tshwane MMC for Roads Tlangi Mogale and Tshwane MMC for Human Settlements Aaron Maluleka have lost their seats in the Tshwane council. The ANC won only one PR seat and despite them coming in 2nd and 3rd on the list they did not get back in.

Vuyo Zungula in ActionSA would be brilliant. Get back Bongani Baloyi as well. Merge with BOSA & Rise Mzansi.
