So many communities have been putting up with absentee owners who are happy to sit on a derelict property and let it decay and fall down. It is the equivalent of showing 2 fingers to a local community by the owner and the local authority. @KerryCounty

The Shannon Shamrock Hotel, opened in 1959, was a prominent 115-bedroom hotel in the heart of Bunratty village, Co. Clare, adjacent to the renowned Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.
The hotel closed in 2009 and has remained vacant and derelict ever since.
The Derelict Sites Act 1990 requires local authorities to maintain a public register of derelict sites, though this property is not officially listed on Clare County Council's Derelict Sites Register. Local authorities can take action by applying an annual derelict sites levy (currently 7% of the market value) on registered sites.

Portmagee village on the left bank, used to be known as "An Caladh", "the Ferry". The bridge to Valentia Island replaced the ferry in 1970 but you know you're hearing a local of a certain vintage when they tell you they're "from the ferry". #Skelligcoast

35% of the tourist accommodation no longer available to the industry and visitors . Our tourism trade will certainly be destroyed. Along with local economy’s . A coherent long term plan from government is needed fast .
