Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica

Dominica
My dear friend, Prime Minister @narendramodi, I warmly congratulate you on 25 years of continuous service as Head of Government, a journey that began in Gujarat and has continued through your leadership of India. As you mark this milestone, I wish to express my appreciation for the friendship you have extended to Dominica and the generosity shown to our people. I value the bond between our nations and look forward to building on it in the years ahead. On behalf of the Government and people of Dominica, and personally, I wish you good health, strength and continued success in your service to the people of India.

I join the people of Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and the wider Caribbean in mourning the passing of Slinger Francisco, the legendary Mighty Sparrow. He was one of our greatest storytellers, capturing our history, humour and the everyday experiences of our people with an extraordinary, sharp wit. His passing is a tremendous loss to our region, but his legacy will live on in the many artistes he inspired and the remarkable body of work he leaves behind. My heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones and all who were touched by his music. May the Mighty Sparrow rest in peace.

I know how much the road at Aux Delices means to the people who use it every day and we are taking steps to make it safer. On Thursday, I visited the landslide site with members of Cabinet and our Public Works team. We will stabilise the area, improve the alternative route between Delices and Petite Savanne, and address drainage and overgrown vegetation, as we work with residents and technical officers on a lasting solution.

#ProjectUpdate- International Airport Dominica’s new international airport continues to take shape, with cladding and glass walls being installed on the terminal building. Inside, crews are installing partitions for the food courts, executive lounge and support services. Tunnel works remain on track for completion in the first quarter of 2027, while most exterior terminal works are expected to be finished by the end of 2026. Runway backfilling continues as work advances on an airport built to standard and set to benefit Dominica for years to come. #SeptemberUpdate #DominicaAirport #BuildingDominica #Progress

Nine years ago today, Hurricane Maria struck Dominica, leaving widespread destruction in its wake. We remember the lives lost and the families and communities that awoke to a country devastated almost beyond recognition. But September 18 is also a reminder of the strength of the Dominican people. We picked ourselves up. We helped our neighbours. We rebuilt our homes, schools, health facilities, roads and communities. And through every challenge since, we have continued the work of building a stronger, safer and more resilient Dominica. Today, I honour every Dominican who contributed to our recovery, including those at home and abroad, our regional and international partners, first responders, volunteers and all who stood with us. May we never forget those we lost. May we remain grateful for how far we have come. And may we continue, together, to build a Dominica capable of withstanding the challenges of tomorrow. God bless our people and God bless the Commonwealth of Dominica. #HurricaneMaria #DominicaStrong #ResilientDominica #NineYearsOn
