Love him, you guys and his resilience
There are some moments as a parent that you know you’ll never forget. This is going to be one of them. 💜🏈
Epilepsy has kept him from a lot of things but since the beginning of the school year, Bryson has been helping with his high school freshman football team as their manager. But he’s never just standing on the sidelines. His coaches have embraced him—letting him help run drills and warm-ups, get the guys fired up, and truly be part of the team.
Last week, the head coach called me with a question I never expected to hear.
He asked how I would feel about letting Bryson SUIT UP for the Homecoming game and be the kicker for the opening kickoff. They would have a plan to safely escort him off the field afterward so there would be no chance of him being tackled.
Through my tears, I said, “Absolutely YES.”
There were still hoops to jump through—approvals to get and even a conversation with the opposing coach.
Then Tuesday, Bryson got the news:
IT’S A GO. 💜
He gets to put on the full uniform. The pads. The helmet. Everything.
And when that ball is placed on the tee, Bryson gets to be the kicker.
I don’t know if there are words for what this means to him—or to us.
Bryson has spent so much of his life on the sidelines cheering for everyone else. He’s helped coach his siblings and his dad’s college players. He has encouraged and celebrated so many athletes while watching them play the game he loves.
But this time, he gets his turn.
For one incredible moment, he gets to walk onto that football field in full gear as part of his team.
He gets to line up.
He gets to kick that football.
And for those few seconds, he won’t be watching someone else live the moment.
It will be HIS moment. 💜🏈
Thank you to a coaching staff that sees Bryson, values him, and was willing to go above and beyond to give him an experience he will remember for the rest of his life.
Homecoming will mean something completely different to us this year.

Curt Cignetti tells ESPN that the headsets in the national title game went out around the 6:45 mark, which included Miami scoring on a fly sweep to Malachi Toney with 6:37 remaining. "We couldn't hear (on the TD), then it came back," Cignetti said. "It came back before kickoff. We both had communication from that point on."

The Cowboys will return from Rio early Monday morning, and Brian Schottenheimer said the coaches will remain at The Star to start prep on Houston. The players will be off and return to work Tuesday.
Schottenheimer has jokingly, "thanked," the league for the schedule of Rio, short week at Houston followed by a Thursday home game Oct. 8 vs. Tampa Bay.
Is he frustrated by the schedule?
“I'd be a hypocrite if I said, ‘I think it's a tough task,’ but we're up to it," he said. "And mentally tough, we need to be. This is a long season, and I can't be a win-the-day type guy and be angry about it. But in reality, it's a long trip, come home, Houston, short week, but we're going to win today and then we're going to go down there and we're going to win Friday, Saturday and play a really good team and hopefully win that. But you’ve got to stay in the moment, but it does require mental toughness. The schedule is the schedule, and we will play anybody anytime, anywhere, but it's a unique schedule for sure.”

The Cowboys will have a normal “Friday” practice today at The Star, then the players will have a break before returning and taking a bus to the airport for the evening flight to Brazil. Upon arrival, they’ll head to their hotel and have a practice at Flamengo Friday afternoon.
“We wanted to leave here today having the game plan done, so there's challenges in that,” Brian Schottenheimer said. “You have to work ahead, a lot of long nights. So we just did our red zone meetings, a little bit of 2-minute discussions … The biggest challenge we have is I think over these next couple days, it's what, Thursday? So Friday, Saturday, you have two more full days where you got to keep these guys up to speed with the scheme. Like first and second down reviews, critical. We put that in on Tuesday and you got to do the third down review. And so we're going to be busy and this is a business trip and the meetings and the walkthroughs and the practice that we'll have tomorrow, the trip to the stadium on Saturday, those are all critical parts to what we're doing so we go into the game feeling prepared.
“I feel really good about the plan right now. It's keeping these guys focused on the things that went in earlier in the week.”
