That the perceived value of a work is attributed to its price is neither new nor little known. Salvator Mundi is the most famous example: a record price of $450.3 million, and in the collective imagination nothing can stand above all that. The market does not just measure the value of a work, at times it helps build it. When I see that same perception here, I can only see it amplified. Especially in front of something that belongs to so many people. I can't blame it, it's obvious that it would be this way. But if I have to look closely, and how could I not, with a TL invaded by nice pixelated skulls, I find that the story can be told differently. Not everything that matters to the paying audience, the audience rooting for its own bags, coincides with the artist's vision. People have played on the value of Argonauts and on how it might change against a value that keeps rising financially. I believe @lphaCentauriKid thought of it the way anyone making art does, on a small or large scale, the way one thinks of a great 1/1. They are different mediums, but they speak in the same way of an artist's expression. It is no lesser, it is not made with less commitment. What changes is only the scale of the facets of a thought, a cultured one without a doubt, because a.c.k. is a cultured artist and one who asks himself questions. In those 9,186 I read his work, his way of operating, his mark. Recognizable even behind pixels: even in a few pixels I read his recurring theme, his struggle with his muse, which is nothing other than his own self resurfacing in every piece. A personal interpretation of mine. I pay tribute to this thought with an Argonauts, owned and sold. Not because I didn't love it, but out of a necessity that asked for the virtue of pressing a button and taking a profit.
