We used to have American music, Indian films, and Chinese actors.
What changed? Afrobeat and Nollywood.
I am reading a lot of pessimism, but let me say this. If Nigeria gets even 12 hours of steady power, raises investment in public education, and fixes basic strategic infrastructure, even this mighty China can't match the Nigerian entrepreneur.
We are not talking about inventing new products but rather producing basic goods at a lower cost. What do you need to make T-shirts, Panadol, or socks? It would be much cheaper in Nigeria if basic power supply and infrastructure were available.
This is why so many Chinese companies are moving to Ethiopia.
You folks forget that China attracted the West to its coast because it offered lower wages and, back then, poor infrastructure. Today, that advantage is gone. These low Nigerian wages, sorry to say, are a huge attraction. That's why most of you have a driver, cook, and gatekeeper at home. Low wages are why the US agreed to sign NAFTA and invest in Mexico.
China is not the problem; Nigeria is.
It's Nigeria that has N20 trillion in resources from subsidy removal and invested only 1.1% in education; we made that choice.
Stop complaining about China and face your own house.
