Robert King said that Harvey West was never "hired." West was Elected by HIS DISTRICT as 1st Congressional District chair. He was not appointed or "hired" by Whatley. Harvey had been serving on the Plan of Organization Committee for years under previous chairs long before Michael became State Chair. West even supported Whatley's opponent for State Party Chair. The Asheville reporter who first pushed the strongest version of the claim later had to acknowledge that the "appointed as district chair" was INCORRECT.
