The Indian capitalist class has, in my view, declined from the era of Tata and Birla to Ambani and Adani. There was once a class of industrialists who saw profit-making and the industrialisation of India as intertwined national projects. Ironically, this existed under a state far more suspicious of private capital than today. The old capitalist class had its flaws, but it possessed a stronger sense of itself as a builder of Indian industry. Today, too much of corporate capitalism seems oriented toward wealth accumulation rather than nation-building.
Ambani could have created social media apps for india. they have enough money to do research but instead they chose to sell icecreams. this are the kind of elites, india suffers with.

Industrialization made a whole, powerful skill set obsolete (ie being really big and strong). Underutilized Strong Men became a huge problem in society and led to increased crime. The same thing is about to happen with underutilized smart people
The esteem in which we hold ourselves and others is based on what we can contribute to the group. This may now be an anachronistic hunter gatherer instinct, but I don't think we are going to be able to get rid of it. We'll make ourselves useless and hate ourselves for it.

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about intelligence is seeing it as some kind of unbounded scalar stat, like height. "Future AI will have 10,000 IQ", that sort of thing. Intelligence is a conversion ratio, with an optimality bound. Increasing intelligence is not so much like "making the tower taller", it's more like "making the ball rounder". At some point it's already pretty damn spherical and any improvement is marginal. Now of course smart humans aren't quite at the optimal bound yet on an individual level, and machines will have many advantages besides intelligence -- mostly the removal of biological bottlenecks: greater processing speed, unlimited working memory, unlimited memory with perfect recall... but these are mostly things humans can also access through externalized cognitive tools.

This is brilliant and should be studied by central bankers everywhere! Peoples Bank of China was the first to deflate a massive, leveraged housing bubble without a single quarter of economic contraction or loss of growth momentum in the real economy. A success for the history books.

Today, we're announcing the death of the resume. And the launch of Cruitical. We spoke with over 600 people on the streets of San Francisco, and we now see the problem clearer than anyone. Hiring has never been more broken, both sides are losing, and it's reaching a cataclysmic state faster than people realize. It was never designed to find the truth, it was designed to filter. @trycruitical gives employers a complete picture of every candidate before the first interview -- how they think, how they learn, how they perform under real conditions. And gives candidates a way to be seen for what they actually are, and get better.

I will soon be introducing a bill to give the public a 50% ownership stake in the largest AI companies in America. This would guarantee that the trillions created by AI are used to improve the lives of all of us — and block oligarch decisions that harm the American people.

AI is built on humanity’s collective knowledge. The wealth it generates must benefit humanity — not just Elon Musk, Sam Altman and other AI oligarchs. That’s why I’ll be introducing the American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act — to give the public a direct ownership stake.
