I went ahead and deleted my previous tweets. You guys proved my point. It’s sad to see that me wanting to express those feelings turned into me receiving death threats, name calling, and just the most vile things being said about me. I can’t imagine having a community built on so much hate. I always want to spread the message that we should love and care for eachother. This world is already a very harsh and scary place, and I want my Implings to have a safe place to escape from all of the negativity. A place where they don’t have to worry or pretend. We lift eachother up, not tear eachother down. My community is built on those values which I am extremely grateful for and proud of. I stand with how I feel, I miss the vtuber awards. They were fun, and something I looked forward to every year the years that we had it. I found so many cool new vtubers that I actively watch now because of it and I hope one day we can bring it back or have something similar. I believe it’s a nice way to come together and celebrate all the creativity and people who work so hard in the space itself. I also do really miss Fillion. Say what you want about her but she knew how to put on a show and bring everyone together. She was so much fun to watch, and always knew how to make others laugh. Be kind and look out for eachother. You never know what’s going on in someone’s life and kindness can go a long way. ❤️

Apu finally spoke again on THE SIMPSONS tonight for the first time in nearly a decade. Seeing him back just reminds me how much I’ve always disagreed with the idea that he was nothing more than some offensive stereotype. There’s an episode where Apu is taking his citizenship test and gets asked what caused the Civil War. He immediately starts giving this ridiculously detailed answer about abolitionists, anti-abolitionists and economic factors until the examiner finally cuts him off and says: “Just say slavery.” That was Apu. He wasn’t stupid. He wasn’t lazy. He wasn’t some useless punchline. He worked constantly. He built a life. He raised a family. He cared about becoming an American. He was usually one of the most educated people in Springfield, and for decades he was just as much a part of that town as Moe, Flanders, Wiggum or anybody else. So yes, I understand why some South Asian viewers hated being called “Apu” growing up. That experience is real. But I also think THE SIMPSONS overcorrected by effectively silencing one of its most recognizable characters for nearly a decade. Now Sunil Malhotra has taken over the voice, and I’ll give him a fair shot. But after all these years, it feels a little like solving a problem after everyone already left the room. Apu deserved better than becoming too controversial to speak.
